Slice the mackerel in half, and chop it into serving sizes. Place on a flat sieve, then pour boiling water over it to remove the odor.
Bring the mirin and sake to a boil in a pot, evaporate the alcohol, then add the soy sauce and ginger. Once it comes to a boil, add the mackerel.
Cover with a lid, then simmer for 15 minutes and serve.
