Put the chopped cabbage into a large pan of boiling water. Simmer for 20 minutes, then drain
Add milk to the saucepan, enough to cover the cabbage. Let it stew in the milk until it's reduced to just a coating on the cabbage - don't let the milk boil
When cooked through, season with salt, pepper and nutmeg to taste and a tablespoon of butter/sunflower spread melted through
Other vegetables cooked in milk this way are just as tasty such as carrots and cauliflower
My grannie and mother both always cooked their cabbage this way and I do too
Ingredients
1 head cabbage, chopped
1 enough water to cover the cabbage
1 milk, any kind you use - coconut milk, rice milk, whole dairy
1 pinch each salt, pepper & ground nutmeg to taste
1 tbsp sunflower spread/butter
