  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter the bottom and sides of 9-inch spring form pan and line bottom with parchment paper.

  3. In large bowl mix molasses, sugar and oil.

  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cinnamon, cloves and black pepper.

  5. In small saucepan, bring the water to a boil, then stir in baking soda. Whisk the hot water into the molasses mixture and then add ginger.

  6. Gradually add the flour mixture into the bowl, whisking to combine.

  7. Add eggs and whisk thoroughly.

  2. 1 cup molasses (mild flavor, if prefer)
  3. 1 cup cane sugar
  4. 1 cup extra virgin olive oil
  5. 2 1/2 cup flour
  6. 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  7. 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  8. 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  9. 1 cup water
  10. 2 tsp baking soda
  11. 2 large eggs
