Step:
clean mushrooms by rinsing lightly ( do not soak mushrooms). pat dry well.
slice stems and tops into quarters or big chunks.
melt butter in skillet over medium heat and saute mushrooms until lightly browned.
add onion and saute done more until onions are transparent.
add salt and pepper to taste.
add sour cream.
turn heat to low stirring until it has heated through.
serve!
dinah's serving suggestion: serve with crisply toasted and buttered triangles of rye or white bread.
My serving suggestions: spin over cooked steak for an added treat. or serve over a piece of toast or mix with egg noodles or plain rice, or serve over baked potatoes.
my variations:
add strips of steak or ground beef to step 3 and pour sauce(when done) over egg noodles to create an easy stroganoff.
add garlic to taste in step three for added flavor.
add cubed chicken in step three and right before serving mix sauce with rice and serve.
serves 2-6 depending on what you're doing with them.
